Donald F. Perkins, 50, of Cleveland, North Carolina, passed away, unexpectedly, Wednesday (January 27, 2016) due to an unforeseen medical issue, causing a horrific accident. Also involved in that accident was his beloved little driving buddy, a Shih Tzu named Fergie. Born August 23, 1965, he was the son of Lyle and Judy K. Perkins, of Scio, New York. Mr. Perkins was a 1985 graduate of Scio Central School. He was an avid hunter every opportunity he had. He also enjoyed fishing. He was a fan of NASCAR, his favorite driver being Dale Earnhardt, Jr. Don also enjoyed traveling with his wife. He was a hard worker. For many years, he enjoyed working outside, logging timber and after moving to North Carolina in 2000, he was a supervisor for a tree cutting service. Later, he went to school at Schneider Trucking and earned his CDL for driving semi truck. He enjoyed this type of work as it gave him the opportunity to travel and see different parts of the country. Don never met a stranger. At the time of his death, he was employed by Migway Transport, Charlotte, North Carolina. Don was a very caring and loving person, willing to help anyone at any time. He was a "gentle giant." He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Statesville, North Carolina. On March 5, 1994, in Scio, New York, he married Ruth M. Marcellin, who survives him. Also surviving him are his two children, a son, Joshua Christopher Perkins, and a daughter, Ashlei Shantelle Perkins, both at home; 2 brothers, Chris Perkins of Bolivar and Brad Perkins of Ohio; a loving sister, Kathy J. Perkins of Scio; several nieces and nephews as well as several great-nieces and great-nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Judy K. Perkins; his maternal and paternal grandparents; as well as his "second momma" Judith "Judy" Barrett. A service will be held at Faith Baptist Church, Statesville, North Carolina on Tuesday (February 2, 2016) at 6:30 p.m. with Pastor Daniel Crawley officiating. Family members will be hosting a Celebration of Life on Saturday, February 6, 2016, at 5 p.m. at the Scio Fire Hall, Scio, New York. All are invited to join in this celebration.
