The Alfred Area Business Association (AABA) voted unanimously at its January 13th business meeting to officially become the first chapter of the Greater Allegany County Chamber of Commerce. The AABA and the Chamber have been working together over the last several months to develop this formal relationship that will benefit local businesses with the advantage of being members of the County Chamber while maintaining the autonomy to serve and function as a local organization. The Greater Allegany County chamber’s executive director Gretchen Hanchett says “[She] is extremely excited to develop this opportunity for the AABA and the Greater Allegany County Chamber as it sets a precedent of opportunity for other local business groups in the future.” Both groups have similar goals and missions, to strengthen and unify local business and communities thereof by means of awareness, appreciation of local business and acting as an entity that gives a collective voice to the matters and concerns in the area. The Alfred Area Business Association has existed since 1965 and has been recently reorganized and revived in the last year with the help and cooperation of its members. Current Board members consist of Bob Volk- President, Phil Curran- Vice President, Anne Acton-Secretary and Tara Snyder-Treasurer .The AABA will be electing a member to serve on the GACCC board to represent the Alfred Chapter.
