Allegany: Apartment complex fire update

At 11:36 p.m. on Feb 3,  the Allegany Fire Department was dispatched for a automatic alarm of fire at 110 East Main Street, the Emerald Hills Apartments, Building F with a 911 call stating there was a fire. Allegany Chief 2 arrived on scene and reported heavy smoke showing. Allegany PD, Olean PD, NYS Troopers, and Catt County Sheriffs went door to door within the building to evacuate all the tenants. Allegany Engine 32 made an aggressive interior attack and found that most of the fire had made its way into the attic space. Due to water supply and hydrant issues the interior crews were pulled out and a defensive attack was started. Mutual aid companies that were called in included Westons Mills, Knapp Creek, Town of Olean, Limestone, Trans Am, and Hinsdale. Companies that were standing by for these stations include Portville, Killbuck and Cuba. All occupants were safely evacuated.  However, four firefighters were treated for injuries with 2 transported to Olean General Hospital. Several firefighters were also treated on scene by Allegany Rescue and EMS for exhaustion and light smoke inhalation. At this time the fire cause is being ruled as accidental. The Red Cross is assisting the families and several people and organizations are looking for donations. All Allegany equipment and firefighters were back in service at 8 a.m. At 3:42 p.m. Allegany firefighters were called back to the scene for a rekindle.
