UPDATE: Houghton woman faces felony assault charge

State police say they arrested a Houghton woman Wednesday afternoon after they investigated a domestic child abuse complaint reported earlier this month in Caneadea. According to troopers, Maegan Stadelmaier, age 26, was charged with felony assault for allegedly causing injury to a child under the age of 7. She was also charged with endangering the welfare of a child. Police detained the woman for a court appearance.
The state police just sent this press release:
SP Amity BCI arrested 26 year old MEAGAN B. STADELMAIER of Houghton, NY for Assault 2nd degree and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.  The arrest stems from an investigation between the NYSP Amity BCI and Allegany County Child Protective Services after it was reported that children under the age of 7 were alleged to have been physically abused while in the care of STADELMAIER who is a Foster Parent.
The investigation revealed that one of the children was found to have sustained several bruise injuries while in her care.  STADELMAIER was charged at SP Amity, arraigned in the Town of Belfast Court and released on her own recognizance.  The children in her care were removed and placed in a different foster home.
