I-390: Trooper suffers injuries when her vehicle was struck by alleged drunk driver

An on-duty New York State Trooper was injured while investigating a disabled vehicle on I-390 in Cohocton at approximately 12:37 a.m. this morning. Trooper Nicole Cowdrick, assigned to the Wayland barracks, was parked in the southbound passing lane of I-390 in the vicinity Exit #2 (Cohocton) with all emergency lighting activated, providing traffic control for a disabled vehicle being handled by VanWormer’s Towing. A vehicle operated by Casey L. Brown, age 33, of Corning, N.Y., was southbound in the passing lane of I-390, and struck the Troop car from behind. Brown was transported by Cohocton Ambulance to Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville, where he was treated and released. Trooper Cowdrick was evaluated at the scene by members of the Cohocton Ambulance Corp. and subsequently transported to Noyes Hospital where she was treated and released. Brown was charged with Driving While Intoxicated; Reckless Endangerment 1st degree (class D felony); and multiple Vehicle & Traffic Law violations to include speeding and colliding with an emergency vehicle. Brown was arraigned before Town of Cohocton Justice Ronald Snyder, and remanded to the Steuben County Jail in lieu of $15,000.00 cash bail and $30,000.00 property bond. He is scheduled to reappear in the Town of Cohocton Court on 03/04/16 at 9:00 a.m. The Cohocton Vol. Fire Department and the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department assisted at the scene.
