IRS phone scam spreads across Wyoming County

“The purpose of this press release is to warn the residents of Wyoming County, NY that numerous complaints have been made to the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office regarding fraudulent phone scams,” said Captain Daniel M. Hummel. On Saturday, phone calls were received by many of the county’s residents by people claiming to be representatives of the IRS or the US Treasury Office and asking for money. Captain Hummel said residents should be aware that the IRS does not communicate by phone calls, and if a phone call like this is made to your home the best course of action is to just hang up.
