Mo’ Mojo is a hard driving, high energy, “Pardi-Gras” Band. The female-fronted group features three-part harmonies, accordion, fiddle, guitar, rubboard, sax, trumpet, harp, bass, percussion, and drums. Songs are sung in English and French. Mo' Mojo takes Zydeco music and infuses it with Blues, Americana, Cajun, reggae, rock & roll, funk, R&B, and African and Latin rhythms.
Mo’ Mojo was formed in 1995 under the name of Zydeco Jones. During the past twenty years the band has matured into an ensemble that takes zydeco and Cajun music and infuses it with Americana, reggae, rock & roll, funk, R&B, and African and Latin rhythms. It’s a music that is all about energy and heat — a music that is positive, energetic, and danceable. Mo’ Mojo covers a lot of ground in the genre. In addition to their own originals, a Mo’ Mojo show includes staple hits from zydeco kings such as Clifton Chenier, Boozoo Chavis, and Buckwheat Zydeco, as well as the new zydeco funk sounds of Sean Ardoin and Keith Frank. The band also performs zydeco versions of pop/rock songs by the likes of Led Zepplin (Fool in the Rain), CCR (Born on the Bayou), and Ben Harper (Better Way). Mo’ Mojo also specialize in Mardi Gras and other New Orleans music (i.e. – Iko Iko, All on a Mardi Gras Day, When the Saints Go Marching In).
Mo’ Mojo has worked with the State Department and the American Music Abroad Program to play the following countries: Haiti and the Dominican Republic (2014); Belize, Panama, Mexico, Barbados, Colombia, and Tajikistan (2015).
