RICHBURG - Raymond F. Higby Jr., 63, of 141 Depot Street passed away Saturday, February 27, 2016 in the Highland Park Care Center in Wellsville following a lengthy illness. Born August 5, 1952 in Olean, he was the son of Raymond F. and Donna Kuhn Higby Sr. Ray married Paula Piazza on March 27, 1982 in Bolivar; Mrs. Higby survives.
While living in Northeast PA, Ray was employed by Keystone Foods, Jiffy Foods and Pennzoil Mini Marts. In 1982, Ray moved back to the Bolivar-Richburg area where he was employed in the local oil fields, Dan Adams Water Well Drilling Co. and Morrison Trucking Co. in Bolivar. Ray was a lifelong member of the Richburg Fire Department and a member of the Sons of the American Legion, Post 772 in Bolivar.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are seven children. Floyd (Maria) Higby, Richburg; Stacy Higby, Richburg; James Higby, Richburg; Donna Higby, Nashville, TN; Kate Higby, Cuba; Toby Higby, Bolivar; Eunice Clark, Friendship; as well as one grandson living at home, Christian Jones. Ray is also survived by his two sisters, Linda (Forest) Shaner and Barbara (Terry) White, both of Little Genesee. In addition are seventeen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held in the Schaffner Funeral Home Inc. in Bolivar on Friday, March 4, 2016 at 11 a.m. Rev. David Herne of the Heritage AFlame Ministries will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Lawn Cemetery in Bolivar.
Memorials to the Richburg Fire Department would be appreciated by the family.
