Regional Media News: Colonial purchases Pittsburgh Station

WAVL now airing Colonial’s successful “Mountain” format

BRADFORD, PENNA. (February 1, 2016) -- Colonial Media and Entertainment is pleased to announce it has signed a definitive Asset Purchase Agreement to acquire the assets of WAVL, a 5,000 watt AM station covering the eastern part of the Pittsburgh market (Nielsen #26).
Nearly concurrent with the filing of the Asset Purchase Agreement with the Federal Communications Commission, Colonial on Friday also filed to move W230BO in Olean, NY to simulcast WAVL.  The new FM signal will be heard in Greensburg, Latrobe, and other communities in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania on a new frequency of 93.3FM pending FCC approval under the AM Revitalization Plan.

Colonial Media + Entertainment Chairman/CEO Jeff Andrulonis (shown in photo) says he is thrilled to be moving into a new market.  “WAVL’s AM signal covers over 800,000 people from I-80 down to the Pennsylvania Turnpike and has been on the air since 1947.  And when we add an FM signal blanketing Pittsburgh’s high-growth area in Westmoreland County, the station has a promising and bright future,” according to Andrulonis.

Colonial has been operating the station under a Local Marketing Agreement since December, airing “The Mountain,” a blend of Adult Hits using the slogan “Mountain Plays Everything.”  A sales price for WAVL has not been released and closing is anticipated for Q2 2016.
