CORVALLIS, Ore. – Cold shooting from the St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team and an overpowering third quarter from host Oregon State sent the second-seeded Beavers to a 69-40 victory in the NCAA Tournament Second Round Sunday at a raucous Gill Coliseum on Sunday night. The Pac 12 champion Beavers improve to 30-4 overall and earn a spot in next week's Sweet 16 in Dallas while the Bonnies' season comes to a close at 24-8. "We fought like crazy, but it didn't go our way," Bonnies head coach Jim Crowley said. Despite the score, the Bonnies often displayed why they reached the round of 32 by playing mostly steady defense against the high-powered Beavers, and also creating many good looks offensively. Unfortunately for St. Bonaventure, though, not nearly enough of those shots would fall as Bona shot just 25.5 percent for the night (15-of-55). "I'm most proud of getting to this point," graduate student Emily Michael said. "We don't have any regrets."
The Bonnies, picked to finish ninth in the Atlantic 10 Preseason Coaches' Poll, enjoyed a turnaround season after finishing 15-15 a year ago.
