Lois M. McClain “beloved mother and grandmother”
ELMIRA, NY---Lois M. McClain, 87, of Elmira, formerly of Shinglehouse, PA, passed away with her loving family by her side on Thursday, March 10, 2016, at The Elderwood at Waverly Nursing Home, in Waverly, NY, after a long illness. Born on November 30, 1928 at the family homestead in Shinglehouse, she was a daughter of Elmo and Dora Curtis Perkins. In Shinglehouse, she married Charlie McClain, who predeceased her on November 2, 1988.
Lois attended Shinglehouse High School. She was employed at Sprout’s Drug Store in Shinglehouse and had also been the manager of the Oswayo Apartments in Shinglehouse.
She was a faithful member of the Shinglehouse United Methodist Church, a member of the Mary Martha group of the church, and had also sung in the choir. She enjoyed plastic canvas crafts, knitting, crocheting, and crafts in general. Her greatest love was her family.
Surviving are two sons, Rick (Elaine) Shavalier of Port Allegany, PA and Kevin (Elizabeth) Shavalier of Elmira; a daughter, Joy M. (Larry) Campbell of Elmira; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren, including a baby boy born on March 10, 2016; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Lois was predeceased by two grandsons, Rickey C. Lockwood and David E. Shavalier; three brothers, Edgar Perkins, Curtis Perkins, and Olin Perkins; and two sisters, Helen Voorhees and Doris Washburn.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on Monday, March 14, 2016 at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, 118 South Union Street, Shinglehouse, PA where funeral services will follow at 12 noon with the Rev. Russell J. Horning, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Shinglehouse, officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Shinglehouse, PA.
