Obituary: Sally B. Owens, 75, Belfast

Sally B. Owens, of Sherman St., Belfast, NY, formerly of Rushford died Tuesday (March 1, 2016) at the Absolut of Houghton following a lengthy illness. Born July 6, 1940 in Gouverneur, NY she was the daughter of Frank and Evelyn Moore Typhair. On Feb. 3, 1962 in Franklinville she married Robert D. Owens who predeceased her March 4, 2000. Sally was a 1958 graduate of Knox Memorial High School in Russell, NY and a 1961 graduate at Canton Technical College. She, along with her husband, owned and operated a dairy farm in Rushford for many years. Mrs. Owens also was a Nurse's Aide at the Houghton Nursing Home for several years and later the Cattaraugus Co. Nursing Home. She enjoyed reading, drawing and playing both card and board games. Surviving are 4 daughters: Evelyn (Mark) Alessi, Robin Owens, Natalie (James Jr.) Ace, and Karen Slack all of Belfast, eight grandchildren and a great granddaughter, a brother Charles (Lavina) Typhair of Edwards, NY and several nieces and nephews. A brother John (Sherry) Typhair predeceased her. Friends may gather with the family on Saturday, March 5, from 4-7 p.m. at the Babbitt & Easton FuneralHome 7 N. Main St. Franklinville where her funeral service will be held on Sunday (March 6, 2016) at 2 p.m. Officiating will be Rev. Robert Mackmer pastor of the Belfast Free Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Siloam Cemetery in Freedom, NY. Memorials may be made to either the Belfast Library or the Belfast Rescue Squad.
