Officials Urge Against Open Burning

The annual New York statewide ban on open burning may not officially begin until March 15th, but regional officials are urging residents to refrain from any opening burning as of now because of the unusually warm weather.  They say the risk of brush fires is always high before things turn green, but as this winter produced little snow or rain, and winds are predicted to increase over the next few days the risk is even higher than usual.  New York’s open burning law makes it illegal at any time of the year to use a burn barrel or open pits as a means for incinerating trash.  The burning of leaves is also banned in New York State.
