OLEAN — The active-shooter scenario March 22 on Buffalo Street has caused city officials to reconsider Olean Police Chief Jeff Rowley’s call for new police radios. Having earlier negotiated on $50,000 to cover the first installment of radio purchases spread out over three years, the Olean Common Council’s Finance Committee tentatively agreed Tuesday to buy them in full for $154,000 among several other capital projects for the 2016-17 fiscal year. Finance Committee members in recent months have met in a series of workshops to develop next year’s spending plan by April 15. Tuesday’s session resulted in a tentative agreement on $602,000 in capital projects slated to pull from the general fund surplus. Click the link for more...
