Olean police to step up traffic enforcement

POLICE TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT TO INCREASE IN UPTOWN OLEAN:  In the upcoming weeks as the finishing touches of the WALKABLE OLEAN PROJECT continue, drivers are being asked to please not drive straight over the roundabouts or cross over the new grass median when turning. A considerable amount of money and effort is being made to make the uptown area more visually appealing and pedestrian friendly.
Police enforcement of vehicles failing to turn correctly around the roundabouts and the illegal crossing of the new grass median on the 500 block of North Union Street will be strictly enforced. Violators will be ticketed in accordance to:
NY Vehicle and Traffic law:
1127. One-way roadways and rotary traffic islands. (a) Upon a
roadway designated and signposted for one-way traffic a vehicle shall be
driven only in the direction designated.
(b) A vehicle passing around a rotary traffic island shall be driven
only to the right of such island unless otherwise indicated by traffic
control devices.
