Second arrest made in Wayland fatal fire

The ongoing investigation into a New Galen Road house fire that claimed the life of David N. O’Dell, has resulted in a second arrest.  On February 15th, 2016, multiple fire departments responded to the early morning fire in the Town of Wayland, which initiated a joint investigation by the New York State Police, the Steuben Co. Fire Investigation Team, and the N.Y.S. Office of Fire Prevention and Control.  In a press release from State Police Senior Investigator Curt Eaton, Joseph A. Meyers, age 44, of #10014 St. Rt. #21, Wayland, N.Y., has been charged with Falsifying Business Records, 1st degree, a class “E” felony, for allegedly providing false information to investigators, which resulted in false entries in the records of the New York State Police. Meyers’ wife, Iryn B. Meyers, was previously charged with the same offense, and remains in the Steuben County Jail on bail.  Joseph Meyers was arraigned before Town of Avoca Justice Pat McMahon and remanded to the Steuben Co. Jail in lieu of $50,000.00 cash bail, or $100,000.00 surety bond.  He is scheduled to reappear in the Town of Avoca Court on May 11th, 2016 at 11:00 a.m.
