Two Pennsyvania fishermen rescued from Chautauqua Lake

Two ice fishermen from Pennsylvania were rescued after the ice broke during a fishing trip Tuesday on Chautauqua Lake in the Town of Chautauqua. Jim Moore, 79, of Emporium, Pa., and Mike Cooney, 57, of Austin, Pa. were both treated for hypothermia at Westfield Hospital after the incident, according to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff’s Office reported that at 1:39 p.m. Tuesday, the pair fell through the ice while fishing, and Cooney was able to pull himself onto the ice. “Luckily Moore was wearing a life jacket and with Cooney’s assistance he was able to hang onto the ice shelf until he was rescued by the Dewittville Fire Department’s hovercraft,” according to a press release.
