Wellsville: Village votes to end trash collection, will contract with LaForge - UPDATED

The Wellsville village board Monday night voted to end trash collection as a municipal function. Instead, the board agreed to a three year contract with LaForge Disposal Service of Wellsville. Effective June 6, the private company will be responsible for trash and recycling collection. No village employee jobs were cut.
Under the contract, the village will pay LaForge Disposal Service $233,745 for the first year, with a 1 percent increase each year. Company owner Kevin LaForge told RNN today the village residents would not receive any bills from his company. LaForge also said he expects to increase his workforce as a result of the contract.
Wellsville mayor Judy Lynch said residents will stay pay for the service through the monthly utility bills. Village officials say customers will receive additional information in the coming weeks.
