HOUGHTON, NY (April 26, 2016) - Houghton College and the Greatbatch School of Music are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Armenio Suzano, Jr. as the new dean of the Greatbatch School of Music.
Suzano has been serving at Houghton College since the fall of 2014 when he began as an interim associate professor of music history. He quickly gained the respect of administration, colleagues and students as a strong man of faith as well as a widely gifted musician, and he was noted by the former director of the school of music for his “Christian witness, passion for musical excellence and understanding of contemporary currents in music.”
In June of 2015, Dr. Suzano was appointed as interim director of the Greatbatch School of Music and Area Associate Dean for Music. Upon observation of his excellent administrative performance, the college chose to consider him for a longer-term appointment, and following an extensive 360-degree evaluation process, which included input from students, administrators, faculty and staff, the college appointed him as the new dean of the school of music.
Linda Mills Woolsey, former dean of Houghton College, said, “Dr. Suzano has consistently served Houghton College and the Greatbatch School of Music with energy, intelligence, imagination and Christ-like love.”
Prior to coming to Houghton College, Suzano served as the director of the Liberty University Symphony Orchestra, director of bands at Brewton-Parker College, professor of music at Indiana Wesleyan University, and a graduate student conductor at the University of Michigan and Northwestern University.
A native of Brazil, Suzano holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Michigan School of Music, a Master of Music degree from Northwestern University School of Music, and a Bachelor of Music degree from Stephen F. Austin State University.
