Livingston Sheriff: Addison woman on drugs with kid in the car

INTERSTATE 390 AVON:  Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty reports the arrest of an Addison, NY woman on charges relating to Leandra’s Law following a Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs charge with a child in the vehicle. On Tuesday at approximately 11:39 p.m., Deputy Sheriff Shawn Whitford, assigned to Operation Safe Interstate, said he observed a vehicle traveling south on Interstate 390 in the Town of Avon. The vehicle allegedly moved from the lane of travel unsafely.  The vehicle was stopped and the operator was identified as 37 year old Crystal D. Soporowski of Addison, NY. During the investigation Deputy Sheriff Brandan Flickner of the Sheriff's Office STOP-DWI Unit responded to the scene of the stop. A series of field sobriety tests were administered.  Soporowski was taken into custody following the roadside investigation. During the course of the investigation it was also found that Soporowski was operating with her 10 year old child in the vehicle. Soporowski  later submitted to a drug evaluation that was administered by Chief Deputy Jason Yasso, a certified drug recognition expert (DRE).  According to a press release, “it was the Chief Deputy’s expert opinion that Soporowski was operating while impaired by a narcotic analgesic and was unable to operate a vehicle safely.” Soporowski was charged with Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs as a felony under Leandra's Law, Endangering the Welfare of Child less than Sixteen Years Old and Moving from Lane Unsafely. Soporowski was turned over to Deputies at the Livingston County Jail for processing and will be arraigned later today. The child was turned over to a family member on scene.
