New committee to fight heroin in Allegany County - Times Herald

By BOB CLARK Olean Times Herald

BELMONT — Allegany County legislators are launching a new effort against opioid addiction. An ad hoc committee chaired by freshman Legislator Judy Hopkins, R-Fillmore, will begin Wednesday to look into issues surrounding the region’s heroin problem and help come up with solutions through Kevin LaForge, a Wellsville Independent who chairs the county Human Services Committee, said the time has come for the county to step into the fight. “Believe me, it is here in our county,” LaForge said, dispelling the notion that heroin is a city problem. “The severity of this problem merits a response from government, both reactive and proactive.”

LaForge also said the committee will work with other groups already combating the problem. Click the link to read more...
