Obituary: Kenneth J. Washburn, 97, Wellsville

WELLSVILLE -  Kenneth J. Washburn, 97, of 80 Johnson St., went to be with his Lord in Jones Memorial Hospital on Wednesday (April 13, 2016) following a brief illness. He was born in Belfast on March 1, 1919, a son of John Kenneth and Joanne Greene Washburn. On June 1, 1941, in Wellsville, he married Irene Flint, who predeceased him July 24, 2005. He attended Wellsville High School and was first employed at the Weinhauer Garage and Lester Chevrolet, both of Wellsville. He then operated his own auto repair shop at 82 Seneca St. and, until his retirement, was employed at Alfred State College, Wellsville campus, in the parts department. He was a longtime member of the Wellsville C&MA Church, now the Crossroads Alliance Church, serving in many different offices. He and his wife, Irene, were known for their support of the Jones Memorial Hospital Auxiliary for many years. Surviving are a daughter, Janet (Glee) Turybury of Scio; four sons, Ronald Washburn of Scio, Robert Washburn of Boca Raton, Fla., William (Mildred) Washburn of Rochester and John Washburn of Greensboro, N.C.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Glenna Jacobs of Bath and Donna (David) Munro of Whitesville; two brothers, Wirt Washburn of Jacksonville, Fla., and Jerry Washburn of Payson, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, wife and several others. Friends may call at the Mulholland-Crowell Funeral Home in Wellsville today from 5 to 8 p.m. and Saturday (April 16, 2016) from 3 to 4 p.m., at which time services will be held. Pastors Dennis Munro, his nephew, and Jeremy Gorham, of the Crossroads Alliance Church, will be co-celebrants. Burial will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery in Scio. Memorials may be made to Jones Memorial Hospital Auxiliary or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
