Obituary: Marion E. Clark Ratzel, 72, Ceres

CERES — Marion E. Clark Ratzel, of 204 High St., passed away Wednesday (April 27, 2016) at her home surrounded by her family. Born Oct. 18, 1943, in Olean, she was a daughter of the late Jared and Marie Bean Clark. On Feb. 2, 1963, in Allegany, she married Fredrick H. Ratzel Jr., who survives. Marion was a graduate of Allegany Central School. She was employed at Faulkner Fruit Stand and was a nurse’s aide at Olean General Hospital until her retirement. Marion was an athletic person who loved the outdoors. She ran in cancer awareness 5K runs, loved kayaking, boating, traveling, golfing and swimming at their condo in Lake Wales, Fla. She was an active member of the Portville American Legion Auxiliary, the Cuba VFW Auxiliary and the Wellsville Moose Club Auxiliary. In addition to her husband, she is survived by four sons, Fredrick (Betty) Ratzel III of Massachusetts, Ronald Ratzel of Ceres, Jeffrey (Vickie) Ratzel of Bluffton, S.C., and Timothy (Jeanette “Nette”) Ratzel of Ceres; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; her siblings, Jared Clark Jr. of Allegany, Joyce Larrabee of Olean, Alan (Connie) Clark of Allegany, Willis Clark of Olean and Donald Clark of Allegany; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; a brother, William Clark; and a sister, Gloria Ann Reardon. Family will receive friends on Sunday (May 1, 2016) at the Portville American Legion from 2 to 3 p.m., at which time a memorial service will be held. The Rev. Daniel Buringrud, pastor of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Allegany, will officiate. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Fund, P.O.
