Obituary: Roy W. "Red" Trask, 97, Wellsville

WELLSVILLE - Roy W. “Red” Trask, 97, of 2235 Back River Road, passed away on Friday (April 15, 2016) at Jones Memorial Hospital with his family at his side. He was born Dec. 5, 1917, in Wellsville, the son of Vern and Mildred (Gena) Trask. On Sept. 20. 1947, in the town of Willing, he married Rose E. Molin, who predeceased him on March 6, 2011. Roy was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army in the European Theater of Operation. In 1953, he started working on an oil rig for Vince Helmhold. He later started his career as a deliveryman with Elmhurst Dairy, until his retirement. During retirement, he worked as a caretaker for Shaner Development Corp. and for the Wellsville Rod & Gun Club. He was a life member of the Genesee Hose Company No. 5 and a member of the Morrison Hayes Post 702 American Legion. He loved his canine companion, Pepper, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, his years with the fire department and his daily trips to McDonald’s with his grandson. He is survived by a son, Phillip (Catherine) Trask of Allegany; two daughters, Sharon Haney of Wellsville and Sheila (Kenneth) Molloy Jr. of Wellsville; six grandchildren, Stephanie Trask, Melanie (Mark) Jones, Kristopher Haney, Kenny (April) Molloy, Stephen Molloy and Heather Molloy; five great-grandchildren, Jenna Trask, Bryan Jones, Nicholas Jones, Hailey Jones and Ethan Jones; as well as several nieces and nephews. Roy was predeceased by two sons, Stephen T. Trask and John A. Trask. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 11 a.m. on Saturday (May 21, 2016) at the J. W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc. in Wellsville. Burial with military honors will follow at Stannards Cemetery.
