Steuben County Hall of Fame inducts three local heroes

BATH – A prisoner of war during the Vietnam War, a World Health Organization spokeswoman and a Civil War veteran were inducted into the Steuben County Hall of Fame Saturday at a luncheon at the First Presbyterian Church in Bath. More than 50 people attended the ceremony honoring former Vietnam POW and Silver Star recipient U.S. Air Force, Lt. Col. (ret.) Wallace Newcomb, formerly of Corning; local paramedic, Red Cross honoree and spokeswoman for the World Health Organization Winnie Romeril, of Prattsburgh; and Civil War hero and official undertaker of the state’s Grand Army of the Republic Soldiers Home U.S. Army Major (ret.) John Stocum (1825-1905), of Bath.
