Allegany County: Deputies, Belmont police arrest sex offender

Allegany County Sheriff Rick Whitney reports that on Tuesday May 17th 2016, following a joint investigation with the Village of Belmont Police Department and the Allegany County Probation Department, Deputies arrested Frederick R. Childs, Age 39, a Level 2 Registered Sex Offender on one count of Failure to Register and to Verify, a felony.
New York State Corrections Law states that any sex offender shall register no later than ten calendar days after any change of address, internet accounts with internet access providers belonging to such offender, internet identifiers that such offender uses, or his or her status of enrollment, attendance, employment or residence at any institution of higher education.
It is alleged that Childs had registered an address in the Village of Belmont and had left that address on May 3rd, 2016 and moved to an address within the Town of Amity and failed to register this new address.
Childs was located, transported to the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office where he was processed and then transported to the Town of Friendship Court where he was remanded to the Allegany County Jail on $20,000.00 cash or $40,000.00 Insurance Bond. Childs will appear in the Town of Amity Court on May 18th, 2016 at 7 p.m. for additional court action.
