Dead man found in Allegheny River - Times Herald

9:44 a.m. UPDATE HERE

ST. BONAVENTURE — A dead body was found in the Allegheny River early Wednesday afternoon.

New York State Police heading the investigation said emergency responders retrieved an “elderly male” from the river off the Allegheny River Trail, roughly 200 yards southwest of the St. Bonaventure University campus athletic fields. Authorities as of early Wednesday evening had not released the man’s name, citing the need to notify his next of kin.

The man was from the Allegany area, said Trooper James O’Callaghan, public information officer for NYSP Troop A, which is headquartered in Batavia. But he could release no further identifying information nor discuss circumstances believed to be responsible for the death.
