Obituary: Charles A. Dougherty, 83, Andover

ANDOVER – Charles A. Dougherty, 83, passed away Friday (May 27, 2016) at Comfort House of Allegany County in Wellsville, surrounded by family.
Mr. Dougherty was born on Sept. 30, 1932 in Wellsville to Anthony and Florence (Daniher) Dougherty. He was a 1951 graduate of Andover Central School. On July 27, 1957, at Blessed Sacrament Church in Andover, he married Carolyn A. Clarke, who survives.
Charlie, as a dairy farmer, owned and operated Hillview Farms in Andover since 1951.
In addition to his wife of 58 years, Charlie is survived by five sons, Charles P. Dougherty, Patrick C. (Theresa) Dougherty and John (Sherry) Dougherty, all of Andover, Edward C. Dougherty of Reading, Pa. and Anthony J. Dougherty of Richmond, Tex.; one daughter, Susan E. (Chester) Norton of Whitesville; and two brothers, William (Mary) Dougherty of Elmira and Robert (Sally) Dougherty of Wellsville.
Also surviving him are thirteen grandchildren, Cayla DeJesus, Maggie Dougherty, Jason Burns, Matthew Burns, Lily Norton, Grace Norton, Daniel Dougherty, Jordan Dougherty, Arianne Dougherty, Ryan Dougherty, Brandon Dougherty, Camryn Dougherty and Alexis Ann Dougherty; nine great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by a son, Mark Thomas Dougherty and a brother, John Dougherty.
Charlie was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus - Olean Council 338. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church in Andover. Additionally, he served for many years on the Allegany County Farm Service Agency Board. Charlie enjoyed snowmobiling at the “Busses” with his friends.
There will be a time of visitation from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday at Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Andover. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Andover. Online condolences may be offered at
