ANDOVER – Richard M. Baker, II, 73, passed away Sunday (May 15, 2016) at Strong Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. Mr. Baker was born on Jan. 12, 1943 in Wellsville to Richard M. and Ellen E. (Perrin) Baker. He was a 1961 graduate of Andover Central School. On May 30, 1964,at the Christian Temple in Wellsville, he married Brenda J. Burdsall, who predeceased him on Dec. 20, 2012.
Richard was the manager for Sherwin-Williams in Wellsville from 1963 to 1989. He later worked in maintenance for Alfred University and for Gorsuch’s Tavern in Andover.
Dick is survived by two sons, Bruce (Jennifer) Baker of Frederick, Md. and Dave (Cassie Lort) of Owings, Md.; three sisters, Judie (Richard) Byndas of Waterloo, Melinda Baker of Canton, Ga. and Marsha (Dale) Clark of Andover; one brother, Michael (Ellen) Baker of Almond; five grandchildren, Zachary Baker, Emily Baker, Christine (Dave Christensen) Cyr, Kevin Baker and Kyle Baker; two great grandchildren, Sophia and Levi; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a brother Stephen K. Baker.
Dick liked playing Euchre with his friends. He loved tossing horseshoes at family gatherings and working the New York Times crossword puzzles. Dick had a lifelong passion for old time cars. He enjoyed driving them and had several Danbury Mint Collectibles. Additionally, he was a member of the Andover Rod and Gun Club.
Friends may call on Sunday (May 29) from 1-3 p.m. at Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Andover. There will be a graveside memorial service at the Baker Family Cemetery on Baker Road in Andover at 3:30 p.m. following the visitation with Rev. William “Scotty” MacCrea, Abbot of the Celtic Christian Community, officiating. Online condolences may be offered at www.baker-swan.com.
