Olean man faces felony drug charge after I-390 traffic stop

INTERSTATE 390:  Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty reports the arrest of an Olean resident on felony drug possession related charges. On May 30, 2016 at approximately 8:20 p.m., deputy Shawn Whitford of the Livingston County Sheriff's Office was assigned to Operation Safe Interstate with his assigned K-9 partner Utah. The Deputy observed a motorist traveling south on Interstate 390 in the Town of Avon. The motorist was stopped for vehicle and traffic law violations. The operator of the vehicle was identified as John M. Chabuel II, age 22.  After a roadside investigation, deputies said about one pound of marihuana was located in the back seat of the vehicle, along with a quantity of cocaine, and a quantity of oxycodone, alprazolam and hydrocodone pills. Also during the course of the investigation it was also discovered that Chabuel was on probation in Cattaraugus County. Chabuel was placed in custody and transported to Central Booking at the Livingston County Jail for processing and pre-arraignment detention.  Chabuel was charged with the following:  one count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fourth Degree (a class C Felony), one count of Criminal Possession of Marijuana in the Second Degree (a class D Felony), three counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree (class A misdemeanors), and three traffic infractions. District Attorney Greg McCaffrey did give a bail recommendation of $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond.   Chabuel will be arraigned later today.  Cattaraugus Probation is also expected to serve a Violation of Probation Warrant on Chabuel.
