Steuben County Legislature to consider online payments for delinquent taxpayers

BATH -- Steuben County residents may soon be able to pay their delinquent taxes and other fees and charges through the Internet, pending approval by the county Legislature when it meets at 10 a.m. Monday. The proposal would allow the county Commissioner of Finance and other county officers appointed by the county manager to receive internet payments, in line with current state laws and regulations. Transactions with the county would provide the delinquent a confirmation including the date the internet transaction was completed and sent, the amount paid; a unique confirmation number; and a notice to the taxpayer to print out and retain the confirmation page as a receipt. Steuben is currently evaluating vendors to manage and process these transactions. Other agenda items before the board include:
* Amending the county highway map.
* Authorizing distribution of mortgage tax receipts.
* Commencing the review period for Agricultural District No. 7.
* Confirming the "Notice to Bidders" and terms of the county 2016 Real Property Auction.
