Ellsworth Swift of Cuba, NY has recently created a scholarship endowment fund with the Allegany County Area Foundation to honor his wife, Ann Swift, who passed away in 2014. This scholarship will be available to the graduates of the Cuba-Rushford High School beginning in 2017.
The recipients of the Ann Swift Memorial Scholarship must: have a 2.5 GPA, enroll in an accredited LVN/LPN or RN Degree program, and have good character, honesty, and motivation to work hard and achieve career goals in the medical field. Applicants may apply online beginning in 2017 at: www.alleganycountyareafoundation.dollarsforscholars.org.Ann was born June 15, 1931 in Honolulu, Hawaii and died September 17, 2014 in Cuba, NY. She was the daughter of Captain Robert Clifton Sarratt, U.S.C.G. and Ann Elizabeth Ruff Sarratt. Ann graduated in 1953 from Duke University School of Nursing and became a registered nurse.
Two husbands predeceased her: Paul A Barwick of La Grange, N.C. And Paul Goodman of Kinston, N.C. In 2001 she married Ellsworth Swift of Cuba, N.Y. where they resided until her death.
Ann worked for the State of North Carolina at Caswell Developmental Center in Kinston for several years nursing mentally handicapped patients. She loved raising orchids and was a member of the Orchid Society of Kinston.In retirement she enjoyed traveling to Europe and to the South Pacific area as well as within the United States. She was active in the First Baptist Church of Cuba and served on the Diaconate Board. She was a member of and financial supporter of many conservation organizations including the Nature Conservancy, the Bat Conservation Society, Save the Manatee Society, and the Outer Banks Wildlife Shelter.
