Wellsville man sentenced to "time served" in animal cruelty case

After serving 188 days in the Allegany County Jail, a Wellsville man will be allowed to go home. In Allegany County court this morning, Shawn M. Howard, 41, of Duffy Hollow Road cut a deal with prosecutors. Howard had faced a felony and misdemeanor charge in connection with the death of a dog last year in Andover. Today, he pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor count and the felony was dismissed. Prosecutors said the "chained" dog was not given proper food and water. The District Attorney's office said the "neglect caused the death of the dog." In addition, Judge Thomas Brown ordered Howard to make restitution in the amount of $ 1,757.
