Allegany Arc’s Annual Membership Meeting was held on Wednesday, May 25th at the Wellsville Country Club. Over 75 attendees included chapter members, invited guests, self-advocates, staff and board members.
Ryan Shoff, VOICE Self-Advocacy President, welcomed everyone to the Annual Meeting. Bill Heaney attended and presented a statement from Senator Catharine Young’s Office and members of the VOICE Self-Advocacy group presented on the It Matters To Me campaign.
Maggie Paine, Allegany Arc’s Vice President of Program Services, spoke next recognizing Justin Santas as Allegany Arc’s 2016 Thomas A. Maul Direct Support Professional Excellence Award nominee. The Direct Support Professional Excellence Award acknowledges the work of a direct support professional from each NYSARC, Inc. region who consistently demonstrates excellence, creativity and commitment in providing supports to people who have intellectual and other developmental disabilities.
Kim Clark, Allegany Arc’s Community Services Coordinator, then honored Kimberly Howard as Allegany Arc’s 2016 Self-Advocate of the Year nominee. The Self-Advocate Award is designed to highlight, recognize and celebrate the achievements and contributions made by NYSARC, Inc. self-advocates. Nominees and recipients are people who not only use or have used our services but also help to shape those services in a manner that benefits others.
Mike Damiano, Allegany Arc’s Chief Executive Officer, took the floor next with a Transformation Panel Update which included comments from panelists Gerald J. Archibald (CPA, FHFMA, CMCP – Engagement Partner, Bonadio Group), Tania F. Seaburg (Chief Policy and Operations Officer, NYSARC), Patricia (Tricia) A. Hertz, SPHR (Senior Associate Executive Director of Human Resources for NYSARC, Inc.) and Corinna McKnight (Chief Operations Officer, Allegany Arc). Discussion questions included topics specific to the NYS Office for People with Developmental Disability’s Transformation Agenda such as Self-Direction, Employment, Housing and Supports, Money Follows the Person and Front Door.
The evening’s program also elected returning members to the Board of Directors. Current Allegany Arc Board members include James Stevens – President; Thomas Talbett Jr. - Vice-President; Deb Thompson – Treasurer; Ed Wilson – Secretary; Linda Clayson, Kevin Gildner, David A. Harkenrider, Ruthann McCarthy, Ed Pekarek and Linda Pullman.
