Garbage Trucks to be Included in Move Over Law

Following the death of a sanitation worker in Tioga County, a bill is awaiting Governor Andrew Cuomo’s signature that would require drivers to slow down and switch lanes or move over when approaching a garbage truck.  The law now classifies sanitation trucks in the same group as police and maintenance vehicles.  Last November, 27-year-old Shaun Tilghman, an employee of Taylor Garbage, was struck and killed by a vehicle while he was collecting garbage.  If the law is signed by the Governor prior to November 1st it will take effect on that date.  If he signs it after November 1st, it will be enforced in 2017.
