Eugene D. Krumm, 85, died peacefully on Wednesday (June 1, 2016) in Palm Coast, Fla. Eugene was born on Sept. 7, 1930, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He was the son of the late Rudolph and Irene Woodrow Krumm. Eugene graduated from Newburg High School in Newburg, Iowa in 1948. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Iowa State University in 1958. He later received an MBA in 1983 from Syracuse University and a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from SUNY Buffalo in 1991. Eugene entered the U.S. Marine Corps in 1951, served in Korea in 1953 and was honorably discharged in 1954. In 1958, Eugene moved to Wellsville, N.Y., to work as an engineer at ABB Air Preheater, Inc. He continued to work there until his retirement in 1994. During his tenure at Air Preheater, he developed heat exchangers for nuclear submarines and concepts for aerospace planes. He holds eight U.S. Patents for his inventions. In 1997, Eugene was named a Fellow of ASME International (the American Society of Mechanical Engineers). Eugene was very active in community service organizations in Wellsville. He served as Board President of Allegany Arc, Board Chairman of ARA (mental health services), Board Chairman of Allegany Council on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse and Board Chairman of the Allegany County Community Services Board. He also served as the President of the Allegany Arts Association.
Eugene is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Andrew and Jennifer Krumm of Palm Coast, Fla.; daughter, Jennifer Krumm and son-in-law, Alan Pekrul, and grandchildren, Alan and Gracie Pekrul of Simi Valley, Calif.; former wife, Nancy Fleischer of Ormond Beach, Fla.; and siblings, Gwen Ward of Nevada, Iowa and Donna Norris of Burlington, Iowa.
Eugene was a loving father and grandfather who will always be remembered for his hard work, intelligence, sense of humor, generosity and kindness. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

In death, Eugene joins his parents and sisters Vivian Krough and Shirley Krumm. Eugene will be laid to rest at Westfield Cemetery near Grinnell, Iowa.
