Route 4023 (Eleven Mile Rd) Bridge Replacement Will Require Detour in Oswayo Township

Coudersport, PA – Starting June 23, a crew from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will be working with a contractor to replace a bridge in Oswayo Township. The bridge is located on Route 4023 (Eleven Mile Road) near the village of Chrystal. The bridge is currently weight-limit posted at 27 tons for single vehicles and 28 tons for combination vehicles. Replacing the bridge will remove the weight postings and also allow PennDOT to remove it from Potter County’s structurally deficient list.
PennDOT will replace the current bridge with a new precast box culvert and the work will require closing the bridge through July 7.

An official detour will be in place during the closure, directing drivers to use Route 44, Route 4023 (Eleven Mile Road), and Route 4025 (Brizzie Hollow Road). Should work progress allow, PennDOT will re-open the bridge before the July 7 completion date.

Dating from 1931, the 25-foot bridge spans Eleven Mile Creek and carries an average of 220 vehicles each day.

The project will be a cooperative effort, using a crew from PennDOT Potter County Maintenance for excavation of the old bridge, back-filling for the new box culvert, and some concrete work.

L. C. Whitford Company, Inc. of Wellsville, New York will place the new box culvert, and perform paving.  All work is weather dependent.
