State Police investigate fatal Hot Air Balloon Accident in Livingston County

On June 10, 2016, at approximately 9:10 p.m., Geneseo-based State Police investigated a fatal Hot Air Balloon accident near Picket Line Road in the Town of Nunda.  The hot air balloon handler, Ryan Almeter, age 34, was restraining the basket allowing passengers to get off, when wind caused the balloon to take flight.  The balloon reached approximately 100 feet, when Mr. Almeter let go of the basket and fell to his death.
The accident involved the Balloons Over Letchworth company.
The FAA and the NTSB were contacted by State Police.
The investigation is continuing.
