Genesee, PA: Route 244 Bridge Replacement Project will use Short, Local Detour

Route 244 Bridge Replacement Project will use Short, Local Detour

Closure and detour will be in place August 1 to November 30

Genesee, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is advising area drivers that work will start August 1 to replace a bridge in Genesee Township. The bridge is located on Route 244 in the village of Ellisburg. Replacing the bridge will allow PennDOT to remove it from Potter County’s structurally deficient list.
Replacement work requires that the bridge be closed and a short, official detour will be in place during the closure. Drivers will be directed to use Township Route 353 (Smoker Road) and Township Route 558 (Rag Hill Road). PennDOT expects the closure and detour to be in place through November but will re-open the bridge ahead of schedule if work progress allows.
Dating from 1941, the 40-foot bridge spans Ellisburg Creek and carries an average of just under 300 vehicles each day. PennDOT will replace the current bridge with a new precast box culvert.
This $724,000 project will be performed by Dolomite Products Company Inc. DBA A.L. Blades. Overall work includes paving, pavement base drains, guide rail installations, pavement markings, and miscellaneous items.

PennDOT reminds drivers to use caution in all work zones, follow detour signs, and always buckle up.
