Bernard "Dean" Bessey, 63, of Medbury Heights, Apartment Number 4 past away Saturday, July 23, at Olean General Hospital, following a lengthy illness. Born April 21, 1953 in Wellsville, he was the son of Bernard "Toby" and Jean E. Gavitt Bessey.
Dean, as he was known, had grown up in Friendship and was a graduate of Friendship Central School, class of 1971. After high school, he attended Alfred University, majoring in psychology and receiving a bachelor's degree in psychology. He was employed by Wes Cline's Auction in Belmont for several years then for Cuba Cheese, where he worked until his retirement in 2014.
Dean loved sports and enjoyed watching basketball, football and car racing on TV. He also liked history and read books about historical events. He was a social member of the Cuba VFW post # 2721.
Surviving are his parents, Bernard B. and Jean E. Gavitt Bessey of Friendship; two brothers, David A. (Keiko) Bessey of Newport News, VA, and Paul E. (Phyllis) Bessey of Friendship; a sister, Roxanne K. (Gary) Burdick of Friendship; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Treusdell Funeral Home, Friendship, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday July 29, 2014 where funeral services will be held Saturday July 30, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. The Rev. Clara Wilder, pastor of the Friendship United Methodist Church will officiate and burial will be in Demmick Cemetery, Town of Ward. Memorials may be made to the Friendship Ambulance Squad.
