Timothy Joseph Rumsey, age 23, of Bath, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 21, 2016, while working on a ranch in Nebraska.
Tim was born on February 19, 1993, in Bath, NY to Joseph and Leigh Ann (DePaulo) Rumsey. He had two sisters, Kelsey DePaulo and Katie Rumsey, both of Bath, NY.
Tim was a proud member of the Prattsburgh Central School Class of 2011. Tim was a talented soccer and baseball player, and considered his classmates as his family. During his high school years, Tim also enjoyed summers working alongside his grandfather, Roland Rumsey, learning the landscaping business.
Following graduation, Tim enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, was stationed at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina, and proudly served our nation during two deployments to the Middle East as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. Sgt. Rumsey loved his country and the Marines who served alongside him, considering them true brothers and life-long friends.
Upon receiving his honorable discharge in the fall of 2015, Tim enrolled in the environmental science program at Montana State University with fellow Marine and close friend, Grant Lien.
During his time in Montana, Tim lived life to the fullest while exploring the Rocky Mountains, hunting elk and other big game, fishing remote lakes, and so much more with his friends and his beautiful girlfriend, Gillian Easterman. During the recent semester break, Tim, once again alongside his friend Grant, began another adventure as they gained summer employment on a Nebraska ranch. Tim immediately fell in love with the ranch lifestyle as he frequently rode horses, worked with animals, and labored long hours on the land. Tim tragically lost his life in a farming accident while doing what he loved most, working in the great outdoors.
Tim is survived by his parents, Joseph and Leigh Ann, his two sisters, Kelsey and Katie, niece, Ava, and grandfather, Roland Rumsey, all of Bath, NY. He is also survived by Aunt, Rhonda (Bram) Rumsey-vanHeuvln of Troy, NY, Aunt, Linda (Joe) DePaulo Hargraves of San Antonio, TX, and a very large and loving extended family.
Tim was predeceased by his paternal grandmother, Martha Rumsey, and maternal grandparents, Anthony and Jeane DePaulo.
Tim was an extremely humble young man of high character who would give the shirt off of his back to help a friend in need. Tim loved his family and friends dearly and cherished time together. He truly believed that the only thing better than spending time outside hunting, fishing, working, and playing, was doing so with family and friends. Although Tim's life was cut way too short, he was a role model who made a lasting impact on everyone and will be remembered forever!
Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, July 27th from 4 til 7 p.m. at the Bond-Davis Funeral Home, 107 East Steuben Street, Bath, NY.
