WELLSVILLE – Several local businesses vied for the top spots when the 15th Annual Wellsville Best Tasting Pizza & Wings Contest took place on the lawn of the David A. Howe Public Library.
Seven Wellsville businesses were in the hunt: Beef Haus, Giant Food Mart, L’Italia, Little Caesar’s, Pizza Hut, Short’s Deli and Tops Friendly Markets.
Short’s Deli was awarded the Winner’s Plaque for the pizza category and Giant Food Mart won in the wings category.
The seven businesses were judged by a three-judge panel. The judges were Colton Wilhelm, event coordinator for the Wellsville Area Chamber of Commerce, who said he was a New York-style pizza loyalist. The second judge was Bryan Gamache, executive director of the Allegany County United Way and Wellsville Town Councilman, who said he was a spicy-pizza-topping fan. The third was Eric Mikols, teen coordinator and tech trainer at the David A. Howe Public Library, who said he values quantity over quality when it comes to chicken wings.
“You gotta be able to eat 17 of them,” he said.
This year’s event was co-sponsored by KZ-102 Radio and the Wellsville Area Chamber of Commerce as part of the Balloon Rally Week festivities.
