OLEAN, N.Y., July 13, 2016 – Three BOCES students in Allegany and Cattaraugus counties recently received the Wayne Krieger Memorial Scholarship.
The 2016 recipients of the Wayne Krieger Memorial Scholarship are Darcy Brownell of Wellsville, Anthony Ozzella of Olean and Jasmine Valentine of Great Valley.
Brownell, of Wellsville Central School, will be majoring in criminal justice at SUNY College at Alfred. Ozzella, of Olean High School, will pursue a degree in criminal justice at Erie Community College. Valentine, of Ellicottville Central School, will attend the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford to study criminal justice as well.
Established in 2014 with the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation, the Krieger Memorial Scholarship provides three scholarships annually, one each to a student at the Belmont, Olean and Ellicottville BOCES campus. The three $750 scholarships are given to BOCES students planning to pursue a degree in criminal justice.
Established by his family, the scholarship memorializes Mr. Krieger who served as a Cattaraugus County sheriff’s deputy. Mr. Krieger of Delevan was the department’s first canine officer and also acted as an officer for the DARE program. Mr. Krieger passed away in 2010.
In only its third year with the CRCF, the Krieger scholarship has now provided $6,750 to Allegany/Cattaraugus county BOCES students since 2014.
Donations to the Wayne Krieger Memorial Scholarship can be made at the CRCF, 301 North Union Street, Suite 203, or online at cattfoundation.org.
