Wellsville: Town ponders request from Allegany Trails, Inc.

A nonprofit group Wednesday night asked the Wellsville Town Board to turn over some land in the general 'Lagoon' area. Bill Dibble represented Allegany Trails, Inc. He said the group has a trail that currently runs from the village line to south of the Alfred State campus. He said it is a recreational area, most recently utilized by Jones Memorial Hospital for its "Glow Run." Supervisor Don LaForge said "I don't see us transferring any land right now."
In other items from the town board meeting:
  • The Board heard from village trustee Jamie Herman, who has been aggressively working on the feral cat problem. Herman has been working with the Allegany County Trap, Neuter, Return organization. That will conduct an informational session for the village and town boards in the near future.
  • The Board the position of Airport Manager. Although the job was filled several months ago, the town was told it never formally created the job.
  • The Board approved spending $537,399.80 to remove obstructions around the Wellsville Airport. Most of the money is coming from a federal grant. However, the town must pay 5% or $32,551 which was already budgeted for.
  • The town approved a contract with Allegany County for snow and ice removal from county roads in the town. The pay rate is the same as last year.
