120 wind turbines proposed for Steuben County

When the Baron Winds company files paperwork with the state Department of Public Service next week, it will trigger a 21-day public comment period for a major wind farm project in Steuben County. It will be the first of several comment periods. The proposed Facility is an up to 300 megawatt wind-powered electric generating facility. The project includes the installation of up to 120 wind turbines in the towns of Avoca, Cohocton, Dansville, Fremont, Howard and Wayland. There will be scores of meetings and hearings in the future. The company next week must also make $105,000 available to the involved communities for lawyers, consultants and local reviews. The project was outlined in a full page public notice in today’s Corning Leader.
