HOUGHTON, NY (August 28, 2016) - The Western New York Great Outdoorsman Expo—featuring Western New York’s own 2016 Rio Olympic silver medalist in archery, Jake Kaminski, and nationally renowned whitetail deer expert, Charlie Alsheimer (shown in picture), along with other speakers, vendors and demonstrations—will be held at the Houghton College Kerr-Pegula Field House on Saturday, September 10, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Advance tickets are $10 general and $5 for ages 6-14, and at-the-door tickets are $12 general and $7 for ages 6-14. Advanced tickets can be purchased at www.houghton.edu/expo.
Olympic champion archer Kaminski will be hosting a talk and archery demonstration along with a meet-and-greet autograph session to follow.
He is a two-time Olympic silver medalist, most recently winning the silver at the Rio Olympic Games along with gold medals at the World Championships, World Indoor Championships, World Cup Final, Pan American Games and Pan-American Championships.
Kaminski grew up in Elma, N.Y. (just outside of Buffalo) and began his archery career at the age of six. With an eye on the Olympics, he began working with the recurve bow at the age of 15.
With national recognition, Kaminski has achieved sponsorship support from pro-brands such as Easton and Hoyt Archery, with whom he also works on product development.
Alsheimer will be presenting a talk/Q&A on the topic “Strategies for Whitetails” during the expo.
He will also be hosting a separate VIP dinner at the Houghton Dining Hall where he will be giving a presentation entitled “Whitetails—A Photographic Journey Through the Seasons.” The VIP dinner will be limited to 100 people and carries a cost of $35 per person, which includes a full meal and the presentation.
Named “One of deer hunting's top five inspirational leaders of the twentieth century” by Deer and Deer Hunting Magazine, Alsheimer is one of the most widely recognized members of the outdoor media and is considered a leading authority on the whitetail deer.
His photos regularly grace the covers and pages of America's most popular outdoor publications, and his writings on whitetail behavior, hunting strategy and quality deer management have garnered critical and popular acclaim.
In addition to being a longtime field editor for Deer and Deer Hunting, Alsheimer has written articles appearing in Outdoor Life, Whitetail News, and many other prominent magazines. His books include "Strategies for Whitetails," "Whitetail—Rites of Autumn," "Quality Deer Management—The Basics and Beyond," "Hunting Whitetails by the Moon," "Whitetail—Behavior Through the Seasons" and "Whitetail—The Ultimate Challenge." He is also the co-author of "A Guide to Adirondack Deer Hunting."
Hunting expert Oak Duke will also be giving a presentation on whitetail deer.
Duke is a nationally published newspaper columnist and features in a weekly syndicated publication entitled "In the Outdoors with Oak Duke." Duke is also as avid local historian and author, having written two hunting books, "Whitetail Bow Hunting" and "Springtime in the Turkey Woods," along with four more books that focus on local community history.
He is a member of the New York State Outdoor Writers Association and the Outdoor Writers Association of America and has won multiple writing, photography and digital awards.
The expo will also feature multiple hunting/outdoors dealers and non-profit organizations in the 115,000-square-foot field house at Houghton College.
