News from Allegany Arc

Allegany Arc’s Friends Foundation is excited to announce this year’s scholarship recipient.  At a meeting held in May, the Friends Board of Directors decided among several applicants who would be the scholarship winner. The $1,000 scholarship was open to all Allegany County High School students planning to attend college full-time in the fall of 2016.
This year’s scholarship recipient is Shelby Card of Cuba. Shelby is a graduate of Cuba-Rushford High School and plans to study Human Services/Social Work at Jamestown Community College - Cattaraugus County Campus in the fall.
Friends of Allegany Arc was established in 1995 to ensure appropriate financial resources exist to protect and expand the opportunities available to the individuals the Arc serves. The Friends Board donates needed monies to individuals in order to promote and improve services for all people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This is the eighth year they have offered a scholarship as a way to give back to the community and support students who are planning a future of working with people with special needs.
Michael McCormick, Friends of Allegany Arc’s President, said of the scholarship recipient, “We had an outstanding pool of qualified students this year and it was a difficult decision to narrow it to one. We are excited to see so many area youth planning a future working with people with special needs in a variety of vocations. We wish not only our scholarship recipient but the entire class of 2016 a bright and successful future!”
