ANGELICA – Donald G. Demick, Sr., 76 of Angelica, passed away peacefully in his home on Monday (August 1st, 2016) surrounded by his family.
Born February 12th, 1940 in Angelica, Donald was the son of Charles and Norma (Allen) Demick. On May 6th, 1960 he married the love of his life, Sandy Brooks, who survives.
Don, who was a life-long resident of Angelica, was a 1959 graduate of Angelica Central School – where he was President of his senior class. Prior to his graduation and in years following he was a volunteer fireman for the Angelica Hose Co. and he served his country in the National Guard for 10 years. Don had worked at many jobs over his lifetime which has included Motorola and Dresser Rand to name a few. In 1999 he retired from 20 years in the Maintenance Department and as a long-time bus driver at the Genesee Valley Central School District and what was formerly known as Angelica Central School District. For many years Don was a boys and girls high school basketball referee. Throughout his years he also owned and operated his own business, Demick Construction.
Don always enjoyed seeing friends and family as he ventured around town. Always a man to help someone in need, he spent much of his time assisting neighbors and fixing things for others. He enjoyed buying and selling antiques and treasures at various auctions and other sales. He also enjoyed telling stories of early days, whether it was about racing stock cars at the Fairgrounds in Angelica, the Shawmut Railroad which he grew-up around, or just about some of the people of the past. In the summertime he enjoyed selling veggies at the local farmer’s market and always sporting a smile and offering a warm “hello.”
Surviving besides his wife Sandy, are his two sons, Donald Demick Jr., and Kevin “Fred” (Tami) Demick both of Angelica; three brothers, Dick Demick of Cuba, Bob (Brenda) Demick of Georgia, and Charles Demick Jr. of Florida; a sister, Charlotte (Demick) Brass of Florida; grandchildren Eric Demick of Olean, Joseph Demick of Angelica, Paige Demick of Rochester, Seth Preston of Angelica, and Jessica Preston of Olean; a great-grandson Evan, several Nieces and Nephews and a beloved “granddog” and faithful companion, Diesel.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister Alice (Demick) Cole.
