OLEAN - Mary L. Magnano, of 350 Front St., Olean, passed away Thursday (Aug. 4, 2016) at Olean General Hospital after a brief illness.
Born on Dec. 23, 1939, in Poplar Bluff, Mo., she was the daughter of the late Edward and Belah Coleman Chasteen Jr. On Aug. 26, 1960, in Pontiac, Mich., she married Michael R. Magnano, who survives.
Mary had resided in Olean since 1960. She attended Ferris State College and was a graduate of Penn Beauty School, Olean, with a cosmetology degree. Mary was an assistant department manager at Tops Markets for 12 years and was a member of St. John's Church, Olean.
Mary loved her grandkids and was an avid fan of all sports, especially Buffalo Bills football.
Surviving are her husband; three daughters, Marcy Byers of Olean, Michelle (Ken) Butler of Rochester and Lillian M. (David) Lechner of Allegany; a son, Michael (Jean) Magnano of Cuba; six grandchildren, Kristen, Brian and Michael Byers, Bradley Magnano, and Cole and Ryan Lechner; three great-grandchildren, Lillian, Amanda and Owen Byers; a brother, John D. (Joann) Chasteen of The Villages, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a brother, William Chasteen; and a nephew, Eddie Chasteen.
Family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Guenther Funeral Home Inc., 1303 E. State St., Olean. Funeral services will be held Friday (Aug. 12, 2016), beginning with a prayer service in the funeral home at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in St. John's Church. The Rev. Edward Sheedy, pastor, will be the celebrant. Entombment will be in the Family Mausoleum, St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany. A Scripture wake service will be held in the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
