Wyoming County Sheriff warns of new Facebook scam

The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office is alerting the residents of Wyoming County of a fraudulent scam which has found multiple victims within the county.  The Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating multiple occurrences of the same scam.
Suspects behind the scam have posed as a “friend” on Facebook of people the victims of this scam are already friends with.  The suspects persuade the victims to call a phone number to claim a $100,000.00 prize.  After contacting the phone number, the victims were persuaded to send lump sums of thousands of dollars to pay for handling, processing, and taxes prior to the delivery of their cash prize.  The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents that there is no such prize and that this is a scam.  The investigation into this scam is continuing.
